3 Clues your Toenails and Feet Need More Care

Clue #1: If you have changes in only your big toe and your pinky toe, this is a sign your shoes are too tight, and your feet aren’t getting enough air. The moisture stays in your shoes, and athlete’s feet fungus can embed into the material and sit right on the nail plate. This is how it starts…. It can progress to other toes the longer you wear the shoes.

Clue #2: After you file off the hard layer of keratin, the nail seems squishy, and you see areas of striations that look deep and white around the 9-minute mark you will see the flexibility in the nail plate as I trim away as much as I can of that area.

Clue #3: If you feel like you have very dry skin on your feet and it just won’t go away, your feet don’t have to be smelly or itchy to have a mild instance of athlete’s feet. People ask me all time or say, “Oh, I bet their feet smelled bad,”. 99% of the time, my client’s feet don’t smell at all, and for the 1% that do, I have had to let the client know I can’t work on their feet. There are instances where the feet are in too bad of condition where nail techs shouldn’t work on the feet. If I feel like I have to wear gloves to protect myself, I shouldn’t be working on the feet.
